Recently I had a knock at my front door with a delivery from UPS. I hadn’t ordered anything so I was surprised, but the package had my name on it.
I opened it up and to my absolute shock inside the parcel was a signed copy of Gary Vaynerchuk’s new book!
Now, to many people this may not mean anything, but Gary Vaynerchuck is one of my heros and he’s had a major impact on me both personally and in my business life.
How I ended up getting the book is a story for another time but I was absolutely blown away by this small gesture and It got me thinking…
How often are we really wowed by a business or a person with such a kind and thoughtful gesture..
VERY RARELY!
Have we forgotten our customers are human beings?
I feel with all the new marketing tools and channels we now have to reach and communicate with our current and potential customers we have forgotten about the most natural and genuine type of connection and communication.
The Human, Personal Touch…
When was the last time you received a hand written note of thanks from someone or some company?
If you’re like me you were raised to send thank you cards, not thank you emails.
These technology tools that enable us to distribute, optimise, engage, target and segment are fantastic,
but they can only go so far…
Businesses that REALLY ”Connect” will succeed..
In the noisy world of marketing we live in you need to find ways to stand out from the crowd and often the most overlooked approach is the power of human connection and personal touch in marketing.
Even though the communication with our customers and prospects has largely moved online I feel the businesses that are really going to excel are those that wow their customers offline with real wow moments like Gary did for me.
You could start with something as small as a personal hand written birthday card or thank you card for all your customers.
You can harness the power of a tool like a CRM to help remind you when to send a card or give one of your customers a call.
What personal touches do you use to wow your customers?
I’d love to hear, share below 🙂
