My name is John King, I’m a full-time digital marketer, specialising in golf and I'm co-Founder of Golf Marketing University.

I haven’t always specialised in golf or been a digital marketer though...

once upon a time I was just a marketer and before that, at the age of 18, I was a small business owner and operator just like most of you, owning & running a nightclub in Costa Rica.

How a young Irishman, barely out of school, found himself in that situation is for another time and a beer at the bar.

Back then I had no money, no experience and no means of earning a living other than through the success of a little, unknown club in a small, Costa Rican coastal town called Tamarindo.

At that age, you may say, I had little to lose; but we all hate failure, so I put plenty of pressure on myself to get the business to succeed.

Which it did, despite some very horrendous mistakes and very expensive lessons along the way.

You see, despite my lack of experience, it didn’t take the brains of Albert Einstein to realise that success or failure of my business fundamentally came down to an ability to attract and retain customers in other words...

MARKETING

And that experience over 4 years is what ignited the marketing fire in me even after selling up and moving on…

I made it my life’s ambition to understand what makes people buy stuff, whether it’s cocktails or beer in a bar or green fees or membership at a golf club.

The world of marketing may have changed massively over the last 10 years, but human beings haven’t and the behaviour of prospects and customers NEVER will.
